109 ENGLISH Ölvesvatn (the largest of the Selá lakes) is located on Skagaheiði in Skagafjörður (Northern Iceland). The distance from Reykjavík is approx. 366 km and 40 km from Sauðárkrókur. The lake lies about 6 km from the Hvalnes junction, but is unfortunately only suitable for larger vehicles. Ölvesvatn covers about 2.8 km2. Fishing is also permitted in Fossvatn, Selvatn, Grunnatjörn, Andavatn and Stífluvatn, in addition to the connecting brooks and rivers. Fishing cabin is available at the site for rent, with all necessary equipment. Booking should be placed at Hvalnes, tel. 453-6520 tel. 893-7756 (hvalnes730@simnet.is ) where cardholders do also need to register beforehand. Camping permits needs to be arranged at Hvalnes as well. You can’t enter the fishing area without permission. One can expect medium or large brown trout or char. Smaller fish appears to be dwindling. The fishing season is usually depending upon the accessibility. Usually the season starts at the end of May and closes at the close of September. Since there is limited rods for this area we recommend you to call prior to arrival! Jeep is preferred since the road is rocky. Not accessible on low cars. It is very important to contact Hvales prior to arrival to ensure that somebody is there to register upon your arrival. Einnig þarf að ganga frá tjaldstæði á Hvalnesi ætli menn sér að vera yfir nótt. Athugið að svæðið er lokað fyrir öðrum en þeim sem hafa veiðileyfi/kort og börnum í fylgd korthafa undir 14 ára aldurs, þ.e.a.s. að fullorðnum einstaklingum er óheimilt að fara inn á svæðið nema með veiðileyfi eða Veiðikortið.
