43 ENGLISH Ljósavatn is at Ljósa­ vatnsskarð, South-Þing­ eyjarsýsla, to the east of Akureyri, the capital of Northern Iceland. The lake is located approx. 40 km from Akureyri and 430 km from Reykjavík. Ljósavatn covers just about 3.2 km 2 . Ljósavatn has become increasingly popular, particularly among families, who like to combine camping and fishing. Highway 1 runs directly to the lake, and thus provides an easy access. Organized campsites are located near the lake. Permits can be bought at Sigríðarstaðir and Fosshóll. Medium sized char is the most likely catch; one can as well expect large brown trout. Fishing is allowed all day between 20th May and 30th September.
